Canyon Walls Series

Kara Young - Meta Art Studios - Santa Fe

My pieces are made of 85% handcast abaca paper. The surface is then covered with

joint compound, then copper or silver leafed. Some pieces are painted with bees wax

and pigment, called encaustic. I use burned and patinaed copper as center pieces.

I also make fine art greeting cards in the same materials & styles.

My current mixed media Canyon Walls Series

Visiting ancient ruins, colorful rock canyons, searching for petroglyphs and aged cracked walls and doors in beautiful old cities such as San Miguel de Allende are my source of inspiration. My work is about witnessing how the passing of time effects the appearance

of surfaces in the world around us and how to express this in contemporary ways.
